Bridgwater’s New Gym: Active Recovery Function Fitness to Open in Unit 8C, Crypton Business Park

History of the Gym
In his mid-twenties, Ben Larson’s life took a drastic turn. A period of heavy drinking and a series of failed relationships had led to a downward spiral. However, in a moment of clarity, Ben made the decision to detox and start anew. This marked the beginning of an incredible journey, one that would take him from being a struggling individual to a successful entrepreneur.

  • It was while away in Yorkshire that Ben began training properly and to invest his time into pursuing his interest in exercise.
  • He gained his Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications with Lifetime Training and went on to start his first set of bootcamps in Bridgwater.
  • Seventeen-and-a-half years later, Ben has been free of alcohol and recently passed his Level 4 Strength and Conditioning, which will allow him to specialise and support children and young athletes.

A Dream Come True
Speaking about the decision to open the new gym, Ben said: “It’s a dream come true. I can really flex all my coaching skills now that I’ve not been able to do where I currently practice. It’s gone from strength to strength.” He expressed his gratitude to his partner, family, and members, saying “A big shoutout to Emma, my partner, my family and my members – all of whom I wouldn’t have been able to do this without.”
The New Gym
The new gym, Active Recovery Function Fitness, will feature all the equipment associated with functional training and will offer the space for fitness classes. It is set to open in early May 2025 and Ben is currently renovating the unit ahead of its opening next month. The facility will provide a welcoming environment for people to come and train, with a focus on functional training and better cardiovascular health.

Ben’s Journey
Ben’s story is one of redemption and perseverance. After losing his father at 16, Ben struggled to find his way. However, it was while away in Yorkshire that he began training properly and investing his time into pursuing his interest in exercise. This marked a turning point in his life, as he began to rebuild and create a new path for himself. “Drink got hold of me. I lost jobs and was living wherever I could and had a few stints in hospital,” Ben said. “For around three years I was heavy drinking. I lost my dad at 16 and never really found my way.” But he soon after took the decision to detox and move away. “If I had stayed in Bridgwater, I would have died,” Ben said. The experience had a profound impact on Ben, and he credits it with setting him on the path to success. “It was while away in Yorkshire that I began to focus on my health and wellbeing. I started training properly and investing my time into pursuing my interest in exercise,” Ben said.

“Being in this position now is amazing. I can really make a difference in people’s lives and help them achieve their goals. It’s a feeling that’s hard to describe, but it’s an incredible feeling knowing that I’m making a positive impact on my community,” Ben said.

In a pas de deux of hard work and determination, Ben Larson has transformed his life and achieved his dream of opening a new gym. As he prepares to open the doors to Active Recovery Function Fitness, Ben is confident that his new facility will provide a welcoming environment for people to come and train, with a focus on functional training and better cardiovascular health.
